When walking in the countryside, there is always contact with horses. They are wonderful, graceful but unpredictable creatures. To paint a horse well I think you have to look at them regularly. Photographs alone are not enough, in my view to capture the spirit of the horse. You need to know what a horse feels and smells like, the gentleness of the velvet mouth on your hand when you offer a morsel of food.
